The 30-Minute Problem
Alarm sounds at a petrochemical plant. 200 workers need to report to muster points. Supervisors start calling names from paper lists. Workers are in different zones — some underground, some in control rooms, some on scaffolding. 30 minutes pass. 5 workers still unaccounted for. Are they trapped? Did they leave early? Nobody knows.
IoT Mustering in 90 Seconds
Every worker wears a badge with a BLE or UWB transmitter. BLE beacons and UWB anchors are placed across the site. The system knows the real-time location of every badge to within 1-3 meters (UWB) or 5-10 meters (BLE).
When the alarm triggers:
- The platform generates an instant headcount: 195 on-site, 5 off-site (left through the gate earlier)
- Workers moving toward muster points are tracked in real-time on the site map
- As workers arrive at muster points, the count updates: 180 accounted, 15 in transit, 0 missing
- Safety officers see exactly who is still moving and their last known position
- Total time to full accountability: 90 seconds to 3 minutes
Integration with Access Control
The same badge that tracks location also serves as the access card. Workers tap to enter/exit zones. The system always knows who's inside a restricted area. During emergencies, access control can lock down certain zones or unlock emergency exits automatically.
Saudi Context
Aramco, SABIC, and Ma'aden operate facilities where hundreds of contractors work alongside permanent staff. Multi-contractor sites need mustering that works across all employers. IPTech's system identifies each badge's employer, zone, and role. The site safety officer sees the full picture; each contractor sees only their workers.
