Agriculture

IoT connectivity for precision agriculture — crop monitoring, livestock tracking, smart irrigation, and fence monitoring across remote farmland.

Overview

A farm runs three operations that rarely talk to each other: instruments in the field, machinery and tankers on the move, and a workforce that changes size with the season. IPTech supplies all three. Field instruments come first, because they sit where the network is thinnest. NB-IoT carries soil probes, weather stations, and irrigation controllers that send small packets on a schedule and run for years on a battery, reaching sensors inside a pump house or grain store where a standard cellular module drops out. Heavier endpoints run on pooled M2M SIMs from Saudi carriers. Where the measurement itself is the problem, radar level sensors read water reservoirs, fertiliser tanks, and feed silos without touching the contents, and flow measurement covers irrigation lines. On the machinery side, GPS tracking follows tractors, harvesters, and water tankers, fuel monitoring watches the diesel that runs them, and utilisation hours show which machine sat idle through a harvest window. Cold chain monitoring holds produce in temperature range from field to packhouse. For labour, time and attendance handles seasonal crews, contract worker management runs third-party gangs as their own category, and wearable trackers with man-down detection cover people working alone in a distant block.
