Non-Motorized Equipment (NME) Asset Tracking

Non-Motorized Equipment (NME) Asset Tracking

Overview

Non-motorized equipment — dollies, container carriers, trailers, ground-support units — carries no power of its own, so it slips out of view. Fixing a Blue PUCK ID beacon to each unit turns the BLE-capable GPS trackers already on motorised vehicles into a moving read network: whenever a tracker passes an NME beacon, it reports the equipment position. Adding a Blue PUCK MOV motion sensor flags movement and handling. The result is continuous indoor and outdoor visibility of thousands of units without a GPS unit on each one.

Challenges

  • Locating non-motorized equipment that has no onboard power
  • Automating inventory across large sites such as airports and depots
  • Sharing and billing shared equipment across operators

Benefits

  • Indoor and outdoor NME location via existing vehicle trackers
  • Automated fleet inventory
  • Movement and handling alerts
  • 20-year beacon battery life — fit and forget
