TL;DR
WASL mandates GPS tracking for all commercial vehicles in Saudi Arabia. IPTech provides pre-configured TGA WASL bundles — device, SIM, installation, and platform — that register directly with the PTA portal. Most fleets go live within a week.
WASL Compliance in Saudi Arabia
The Transport General Authority (TGA) requires every commercial vehicle operating in Saudi Arabia to transmit live GPS data to WASL, the national fleet-linking platform operated by Elm. Non-compliance can mean fines and blocked registration renewals under TGA and Ministry of Transport regulations.
What WASL Requires
- A GPS tracker that meets the technical specifications WASL and the TGA require
- Location data transmitted in real time via cellular (2G/4G)
- Tracker installed with tamper-proof wiring and external antenna
- Registration on the WASL portal with vehicle plate number and chassis number
- Active SIM card from a Saudi carrier (STC, Mobily, or Zain)
Registration Process
Step 1: Get a GPS tracker that meets WASL and TGA specifications. As your service provider, IPTech selects and supplies devices — Teltonika FMB920, FMB140, and FMC650 — that meet or exceed those requirements, so you do not have to chase any list yourself.
Step 2: Install the device. IPTech's mobile installation team covers the Eastern Province, Riyadh, and Jeddah. Typical install takes 30-45 minutes per vehicle.
Step 3: Activate the SIM card and configure the device to transmit to WASL servers. IPTech provides pre-configured SIMs — plug in and go.
Step 4: Register on the WASL portal. Enter the device IMEI, vehicle plate number, and operator details. IPTech handles registration for fleet customers.
TGA WASL Bundles
IPTech offers pre-configured TGA WASL bundles that include everything: device, SIM card, installation, platform access, and WASL registration. Three tiers based on fleet size — contact us for pricing.
Fleets with 50+ vehicles get volume pricing on devices and SIM plans. The per-vehicle cost drops significantly at scale.
Common Questions
Do personal vehicles need WASL? Currently, WASL is mandatory for commercial vehicles — taxis, buses, trucks, delivery vehicles. Private cars are exempt unless used commercially.
What happens if I don’t comply? The TGA can impose fines and block vehicle registration renewal under Ministry of Transport regulations. Some government contracts also require WASL compliance as a prerequisite.
Can I use my existing tracker? Only if it meets the technical specifications WASL and the TGA require and transmits in the required format. IPTech can audit your existing fleet, identify gaps, and replace any device that falls short. See our full WASL compliance guide for the complete requirements.
