Remote Irrigation & Field Telemetry
Overview
Pumps, valves, and soil probes report over Modbus and RS-485 to a central SCADA, and an operator can start or stop a pump by SMS when signal is marginal. The router and gateway bridge legacy field controllers to cellular, so water use is measured and managed without a truck roll to every wellhead.
Challenges
- Wellheads and pump houses are scattered across remote land
- Legacy pump controllers speak Modbus/RS-485, not IP
- Manual pump checks waste fuel and labour
- Water draw goes unmeasured until the monthly read
Benefits
- Modbus and RS-485 field devices bridged to cellular SCADA
- Remote pump start/stop, including SMS on weak signal
- Continuous flow and level telemetry
- Fewer site visits to inspect field equipment
Recommended Products

RUT956
The RUT956 is a 4G LTE Cat 4 industrial router with dual SIM for automatic failover and four Ethernet ports. OpenVPN, IPsec, and DMVPN secure remote sites, and dual SIM keeps fixed installations and machine-to-machine links online when one network drops.
- CONNECTIVITY - 4G LTE (Cat 4), 3G, 2G
- DUAL SIM - With auto failover, backup WAN and other switching scenarios
- MULTIPLE INTERFACES - Ethernet, Serial (RS232, RS485) and multiple Inputs/Outputs
Teltonika Networks

TRB256
For endpoints that send little and must last, the TRB256 runs LTE Cat M1 and NB-IoT, including the 450 MHz band. Dual SIM, Ethernet, serial and I/O all terminate on a 16-pin terminal block.
- CONNECTIVITY - 4G/LTE Cat M1/Cat NB1, NB2/EGPRS
- DUAL SIM - Auto-failover, backup WAN, and more switching scenarios
- INTERFACES - Ethernet, I/Os, and Serial (RS232, RS485) interfaces with 16-pin terminal block

RUT204
CAN FD and GNSS on board make the RUT204 a fit for vehicles and mobile assets rather than a fixed cabinet. Dual-SIM auto-failover keeps the link up as coverage changes, and RS232 plus two Ethernet ports connect the equipment already on the machine.
